A classic daiquiri
Daiquiri, a classic cocktail with white rum. One of the easiest cocktails to craft and yet it can turn out to be one of the most difficult ones. The main feature of the cocktail is entirely focused on balance. A little less or more of any single ingredient can throw the cocktail completely out of balance. Even shaking the cocktail extra could result in the cocktail getting diluted
It is named after the town of Daiquiri, located in the southern part of Cuba, where it originated in the late 1800s. Made of just three simple ingredients, including the rum. The other two just being sugar and lime. The combination of sugar and lime is also known as a sour mix. Matter of fact, any cocktail with lime and sugar as its ingredients, is also known as a sour.
The whiskey sour, brandy sour, etc. But daiquiri originally was served in a tall glass. A glass filled with ice to which a lime was squeezed and sugar was added. Over which the white rum is poured. It later settled to the current serving style. Where the cocktail is made in a shaker and then poured over a cocktail glass
The whole process of making the cocktails can sound so simple. But the real challenge is in how to retain the flavors of the ingredients without overpowering the other. This can include the rum, and water from dilution of the ice while shaking. Since there aren’t any strong flavors like strawberry, mango, etc. it creates a very delicate line of balance to work with.
daiquiri and flavors
Normally out there, most prefer a flavored daiquiri over the classic. With flavors coming, it gives us the little extra liberty by reducing the risk of it going wrong. Don’t get me wrong here, it’s just that a mango daiquiri is much easier cocktail to craft than a classic daiquiri. The skill required is still top notch J
Everyone knows how a mango tastes, very few will know the classic taste. The entire classic daiquiri is at the mercy of the bartender. Here, since there is no mango flavor, lime and sugar play the lead flavor role. But unlike the flavored daiquiri where the rum flavor is practically overpowered, here the rum flavors also have to kick in. Now this is where skill also kicks in 😉

A classic daiquiri is always been one of my go-to cocktails. But the chances of it going wrong are also high. But if it’s done well, you could fall in love with it instantly. If you taste a sweet and sour, with a little floral notes, followed by a not very long-lasting but just the flavour of floral notes from the Bacardi. Making you want to sip it one more time. Ladies and gentlemen, you must definitely have your hands on a perfect Daiquiri
