5 Cashew feni cocktails to make at home
Cashew feni is a spirit made from fermented locally grown cashew fruit from Goa. It proudly holds the distinction of being the first liquor in India to be granted Geographical Indication (GI) status. Just like tequila, which can only be produced in a specific region of Mexico, Cognac is allocated to a particular region in France. Cashew feni can only be made in Goa, India. Initially, it came under the Country Liquor Act. However, recognising its cultural and historical significance, it identifies itself as the “Heritage spirit of Goa”. However, the unfortunate part is that it is still only available for sale in Goa. Additionally, this has also played a significant role in limiting the use of cashew feni in cocktails. As a matter of fact, there are hardly any cashew feni cocktails.
Many people are confused about how to drink cashew feni. The best way to enjoy cashew feni is to pair it with Limca and lime, which is the most recommended method by many. During my visits to bars in Goa, cashew feni cocktails have always been underappreciated. Every table asking for a cashew feni cocktail was told to have it with Limca. And I found a bottle of Limca on my table too ;). Not that it’s a bad combination, but then there are some beautiful cocktails with cashew feni that could be served as well. Yeah, you need to go that extra mile to make it. Here, we present five cashew feni cocktails that can be easily made at home, not only tasting great but also being easy to prepare.
