3 easy cocktails with lime and sugar.

You could never be far from lime, an essential ingredient. Whenever it comes to a cocktail session or getting behind the bar, I need to see lime β fresh lime. Just love the sight of it. With all the new trends and alternatives to lime available, I would still prefer the ones they call βfresh limeβ over anything. Still, the old-fashioned ahh π . Can wear that batch with pride. Age and wisdom get along wonderfully, just like lime and sugar in cocktails. Let’s do four easy cocktails at home using lime and sugar from the extensive list available.
A country which is obsessed with lime. You see it almost everywhere. If not squeezed into your glass with a pinch of salt and sugar, you find it hanging with chullies on a vehicle, and even in rituals. I do remember seeing one pierced with needle all round, did scare the shit out of me π Lol..But today, we talk about something pleasant – maybe the best thing that happened to lime. We call it cocktails. And when alcohol combines with lime, it could be just a match made in heaven. Here we are with just three cocktails, with just lime and sugar from the gigantic list to choose from
Caipirinha
“Wow” would be the word I would use to describe the Caipirinha in one word. It is also known as Brazil’s national cocktail. Caipirinha can only be made with Cachaca, a spirit made from fresh sugarcane juice. A native spirit to Brazil, and can only be made and produced in Brazil. This made it a bit tough getting the cachaca in India. But when I finally did manage to get my hands on one, the first thing I did was to go and make myself a caipirinha, pronounced (kaip-per-en-yah). The cocktail turned out brilliantly. However, after doing it a couple of times, I noticed that much of the caipirinha’s flavour depends on the type of lime you choose. A green lime skin is much preferred over a yellow skin ripe lime, which is already ripe. And crystal sugar would be the preferred choice over simple syrup.

- Habibi, here we have the Caipirinha, the national cocktail of Brazil
The caipirinha is a brilliant cocktail. Most of Brazil would agree with me here. It is one of my favourites in the classic cocktail segment. Could have it all year at any time. The sweet-sour mix of lime and sugar gels unbelievably with the grassy and slightly crispy notes from the cachaca. Tried it on a warm summer day; what can I say? It felt like winter after the first sip. And by the time I finished my second glass, I saw angels, lol. More than just a summer cocktail could go all year round with it. Now don’t ask me what happens when you try it in winter π .
Diaquiri
Daiquiri, a classic cocktail with white rum, sugar and lime. Whenever I need a white rum cocktail, I always opt for a daiquiri. I recall that in my early days of bartending, I served a daiquiri to the Hotel’s general manager. He asked for a cocktail towards the end of the event. As the bar was busy and we ran out of ingredients, I churned him a daiquiri. Minutes later, he was in front of me with absolute praise for the cocktail. Looked quite intrigued to know the ingredients of the cocktail. On letting him know it was a daiquiri. But when u disclosed the recipe to him, I could see the excitement on his face slowly turn into discontent. This is a common factor among many of us. If a cocktail is good, it’s good. Simple ingredients like lime and sugar can also deliver some outstanding cocktails
We tried the daiquiri with both lime and lemon to demonstrate the difference between the two. Many get confused between the two. It’s two different ingredients with different flavour profiles. The lime, being more acidic and citrusy, gave the daiquiri a nice crisp flavour with an outstanding balance. In comparison, the lemon daiquiri was a touch sweeter. I always preferred the lime daiquiri. This could be because I have developed a liking for the lime, rather than taking anything away from the lemon daiquiri. But I won’t recommend the caipirinha with lemon; it still needs a green-skinned lime.

Daiquiri is the simplest of cocktails with a white rim, and it doesn’t fail to surprise you. The sweet-sour flavour from lime and sugar complements the floral notes from Bacardi. A super refreshing cocktail that helps to cool you down when the mercury rises. Don’t let the smile ingredients of the cocktail fool you. When you have a bottle of white rum at home, I recommend taking that extra effort to make yourself a daiquiri.
Cashew feni cocktail
The cashew cocktail is yet to be christened. This cocktail can’t be found in bars, it does not make it to any classic list, but it doesn’t fail to deliver a darn good punch. Crafted by master mixologist “Ranson Carvalho” Opp’s that me π . Much inspired by the caipirinha and caipiroska. It’s one of the best cashew feni cocktails I’ve made, purely due to the simplicity of the ingredients. This results in a fast and easy-to-make cocktail. I don’t believe in over-decorating a cocktail when it comes to garnishing. The garnish should play a role in the cocktail. You can call me old-fashioned here, but if you try this cocktail with and without garnish, you’ll understand what I mean. The Mandarin slice garnish enhances the cocktail, taking it to the next level.
